Italian gas station lighting project:
high-performance LED lamps drive comprehensive upgrade of station area lighting quality
In the process of Europe’s energy structure transformation and urban infrastructure modernization, gas stations, as important nodes of transportation energy supply, have been given higher safety, energy saving and visibility standards for the optimization of their lighting systems. A national gas station lighting upgrade project recently launched in Italy covers multiple stations including highway service areas, urban core transportation hubs and regional energy distribution centers. It aims to fully replace traditional light sources with high-efficiency LED gas station lamps to build a high-quality, low-energy lighting environment for the station area.
Project scope and technical background
This project mainly aims at systematically upgrading the main lighting system in the canopy area. The original lamps were mostly metal halide lamps and high-pressure sodium lamps, which had problems such as uneven illumination, severe light decay, slow startup, high energy consumption and frequent maintenance, which made it difficult to meet the requirements of contemporary gas stations in terms of lighting uniformity, safety recognition and energy-saving operation.
The project fully introduces LED gas station special lamps (LED Canopy Light), which greatly improve the light output, installation reliability and service life on the basis of meeting the requirements of large-area uniform lighting, and provide a stable light environment guarantee for gas stations under day and night operation.
Technical features of LED gas station lamps
The LED gas station lamps used adopt an integrated die-cast aluminum shell design, combined with high-brightness LED modules and precision light distribution systems, and have the following key technical advantages:
High light output: The whole light efficiency is as high as 140~160lm/W, which effectively improves the illumination coverage range, and ensures the lighting intensity while reducing the power load;
Uniform light distribution: Using professional secondary light distribution lenses, the beam angle is optimized to 120° wide angle to avoid glare, dark areas and ghosting problems, ensuring that there is no dead angle lighting in the refueling area;
Excellent color rendering performance: Color rendering index (CRI) ≥80, significantly enhancing Color restoration capability enables drivers to accurately identify ground markings, equipment logos and operator dynamics;
Strong environmental adaptability: With IP65 protection level, dust and water resistance, it can adapt to outdoor all-weather operating environment; the shell is anti-corrosion treated and suitable for coastal, high humidity and high temperature environments;
Efficient thermal management: The lamp structure integrates high thermal conductivity aluminum alloy heat sinks to form an efficient convection cooling system to ensure that the LED chip maintains stable light output under long-term operation;
Flexible installation method: Supports multiple installation methods such as embedded, ceiling and bracket fixing to meet the requirements of different gas station canopy structures, and facilitates standardized construction and maintenance.
Project implementation results and operational benefits
As a high-frequency, all-weather operating facility, the lighting system of the gas station has an important impact on safe operation and customer experience. After the project was completed, the illumination of the station area increased by more than 40% on average, and the lighting distribution was more uniform, which significantly improved the nighttime visibility of the station area, reduced traffic hazards, and improved the clarity of operations and guidance.
At the same time, the ultra-long life of LED lamps (≥50,000 hours) greatly reduces the replacement frequency and labor maintenance costs. Compared with the original 400W metal halide lamp system, the upgraded LED lamps have a single lamp power consumption reduction of about 60%, and the overall operating energy consumption has dropped significantly. According to the operator’s evaluation, the average single station can save more than 25,000 kWh of electricity per year, saving thousands of euros in operating expenses.
From a maintenance perspective, LED lamps are lit immediately after turning on, have no flicker, low light decay, and no harmful ultraviolet radiation, which improves the overall equipment stability and environmental friendliness. Explosion-proof gas station lamps also improve the safety standards of the station area, and are particularly suitable for lighting in flammable and explosive areas.
Promote green transportation and energy infrastructure upgrades
This Italian gas station lighting project demonstrates the mature application and engineering reliability of LED lighting technology in energy infrastructure, which not only helps companies achieve sustainable operation goals, but also responds to the EU’s “green energy station” policy requirements.
Through systematic lighting upgrades, many gas stations in Italy have achieved comprehensive improvements in energy saving, image, and safety. The lighting system has become a key component supporting the intelligent and standardized development of modern transportation energy stations.
Conclusion
Efficient and reliable LED gas station lights are not only an update of the lighting system, but also a comprehensive improvement of operational management efficiency, brand image and customer security. As European countries accelerate the pace of green transformation of energy infrastructure, LED lighting will continue to play a core role in gas stations and multi-energy service outlets, helping to build an energy-saving, environmentally friendly, safe and efficient modern transportation service system.
